Resumen: Modular categories arise naturally in many areas of mathematics, such as conformal field theory, representations of braid groups, quantum groups, and Hopf algebras, and low dimensional topology, and they have important applications in condensed matter physics.
Despite recent progress in the classification of these categories, the general landscape remains largely unexplored. To deepen our knowledge of this important class of categories, we look for different constructions that produce modular categories. In this talk, we will introduce the definition and some examples of a modular category as well as the zesting construction and some of its interesting properties.
If time permits, we will look show how zesting affects certain invariants of the modular category, in particular link invariants associated with it.
